Kay Baptist Association Beginnings

Kay Baptist Association was organized from churches that were members of Perry Baptist Association. Rev. J. M. Gaskin, Moderator of Perry Baptist Association, appointed a special committee to study the possibility of forming a new association in the Kay County area. The committee brought it's recommendation, which passed unanimously by the Perry Baptist Association Executive Board, to the 54th Annual Meeting of Perry Baptist Association on October 3, 1947 at the Sunset Baptist Church, Ponca City.

The recommendation was as follows:
". . . that the churches of Kay County and vicinity take immediate steps to form a new Association, and that the remaining churches continue as Perry Association. We recognize the right of each church to determine its own affiliation.
We suggest the following alignment as equitable and logical.

This recommendation was unanimously adopted by the Association.

It was then agreed that two separate bodies would meet in the afternoon to conduct business. Perry Association met at Sunset Baptist Church and the new Association met at Second Baptist Church.

During the meeting at Second Baptist Church, officers were elected, a calendar of activities was adopted and a constitution was approved. The new fellowship of churches would be called Kay Baptist Association. Rev. Woodrow Gray, Associational Missionary for Perry Association, was called to serve as Missionary for the newly formed Kay Baptist Association.

Members of Perry Baptist Association and Kay Baptist Association convened for Evening Services, October 3, 1947, at Sunset Baptist Church. "Motion was made and carried that all bills be paid up-to-date and the balance of the money be divided equally between the two Associations."

The business session was dismissed in prayer by J. M. Gaskin.
